Traffic Control Person Training

The Traffic Control Person course is designed to meet the need of a person interested in entering the field of Traffic Control. It will provide them with the theory and understanding of the applicable Laws, Regulations and Procedures necessary to write the competency examination issued by the Construction safety Network of B C and ultimately gainful employment.
This instruction and training will prepare the participants by providing training on their Roles and Responsibilities, Conduct, Applicable Regulations and Standards, Traffic Control Equipment, Setting up, Maintaining and removal of Work Zones, Basic Traffic Control Skills and more. This course prepares them to write the Construction safety Network, Traffic Control Person Examination and meet the requirements of the construction industry.

Location: Northern B C Guard Academy, 1919 17th Ave., Prince George B.C.
Time: 08:00 A.M. to 04:30 P.M. with 45min./1 hour lunch breaks non-scheduled energy breaks each day.
Course Prerequisites: Students must have a minimum of grade 10 reading and comprehension abilities and a solid grasp of the English Language.
Course Format: Lectures, reading from and completion exercises in a book, discussions and practical traffic control scenarios.
Design: two, eight hour days
Hours: 16 hrs. plus examination time.
Duration of Certification: Once every three years.
Delivery: Lectures, group activities, role play, reading from a book and completing written exercises.

Evaluation: Evaluation of learning, for this course, will be conducted throughout the two days of instruction, practical skills demonstration and a written test. The written test consists of forty questions on information covered in the course and in a pick the correct answer format. Students must attain a passing mark of 80% or better to pass the written test to meet the Construction Safety Network of British Columbia’s minimum standards for licensing. They must also attain a 100% score on their demonstration of Traffic Control Skills and Safety Procedures while on the roadway.
Important Note: Participants will be required to provide a passport quality photograph prior to the end of the course. This photograph is to be affixed on a laminated, plastic identification card and mailed back to the successful Traffic Control Person.
Participants must wear approved safety toed footwear during the on road practical session. Hard hat, approved safety vest and retro-reflective arm and wrist bands will be provided for their demonstrations.
This is an intense program that requires extensive reading and commitment to their overall success. Instructor support is provided throughout the duration of the course.
Candidates who successfully write the examination and demonstrate superior abilities in their practical session will be issued a temporary T.C.P. certificate prior to the end of the course. Participants must take part in the entire 16 hrs of instruction to obtain certification.
